Client Brief (St. Elmo Apartment Design)

The client's goal for this project is to convert the St. Elmo in Palouse, WA into an apartment and spa combination. Our task was to design the kitchen for the two bedroom apartment on the second floor of the building. The client had specific features that were important to him such as using sustainable materials in as much of the design as possible. The client described his aesthetic as naturalistic and classicist. He said he loves to use natural stones like granite and travertine and also he loves the use of wood and glass throughout a space. Open concept living is also something that he mentioned a lot since the space is so small and creating large open spaces makes the area seem larger. Although the client did have some specific aspects that he wanted to be included in our designs, he wanted us to feel free to create designs that were creative and innovative. He was interested in seeing the different ideas that we could come up with so he didn't want to give too many restrictions.
