This is my final model of my seat and shelter. This is the shelter that was inspired from the rock and also from the designer that I studied, Clodagh. I like this picture because it shows the shadows created from the shelter which was the whole purpose of making them in that way. If I was to change anything I would change the materials that I used to build this. I made the shelter and the rounded part of the bench out of foam core board which is not very sturdy and it doesn't quite look the way I would like it to. When I drew the bench in my perspective drawing I drew it using the correct colors and it looks so much closer to how I envisioned it looking. I think that this was a huge learning curve for me as far as model making goes because I learned a lot about materials and also about how to make things the appropriate size. Overall I am very happy with my finished design and think that it shows my designer as well as my inspiration very well.
This is a sketch of some fruit that I had in my kitchen. I drew it out and then painted it. I actually really liked doing this sketch because it was the first one we did that we added paint, so it was fun to experiment with a different medium in our sketching. It's not the most realistic painting I've ever done but I still am happy with how it turned out and think that it is a very fun and colorful painting.
These posters I created from my inspiration which was a rock. The start of this project started with picking a designer. I chose Clodagh who is an Irish born designer who focuses on simplicity and functionality. I also was inspired from the design mantra of Clodagh which is Contemplate, Cleanse, Clarify and Create. I chose this as my second inspiration to create my models because I wanted to focused on simplicity since I also chose a very simple rock.
At first trying to draw sketches for my model was challenging because I was just looking at the rock and I didn't really see anything. Then, when I started to get used to thinking abstractly I started to look at different aspects of it such as the texture and the colors and the actual shape of the rock. Once I got past that block it became much easier for me and I began to mainly focus on the texture.
The texture of the rock is what inspired the seat and shelter. I included all the different aspects such the lines of the rock which is shown in the straight part of the bench and also the curve is shown in the shelter aspect and also the rounded part of the bench. Although my bench is very simple, that is exactly what I wanted to achieve with my model. I think that the bench is functional and also, if it were to be built, would be very beautiful. The materials I chose for this are very neutral and natural which I think would be perfect for the outdoors but also sustainable which is relevant to Clodagh.
I think that this whole project was a huge learning experience for me. I think that learning to start with an inspiration and then going to 2D and then 3D models and then into a functional piece of furniture is something that I will be able to continue to do and is a completely new way of doing things. As far as the presentation of the posters and actually making them I am very pleased with how they turned out. I like the posters I made by hand the best and the one I created on InDesign the least because I think there is too much stuff on it and I'm not totally happy with the layout. Overall though I really enjoyed this project and am very happy with how it turned out.

This is my final abstract model before getting to the final model which is the bench and shelter. I really like this model because I think that it incorporates many aspects of my other models and still represents the rock and also Clodagh's design sense. I like the curved lines and I like how I used negative space to create visual interest in the circle in the middle. The one thing I think is missing from this is the contrast between organic and also straight lines. The one thing I'll change from this model to my final product is that I will make sure to incorporate straight lines as well as curved lines. I think that by doing that it will be more visually balanced and interesting.

These are my further abstractions of my original 3D models. I think after doing my original 3D models these were way easier to do because I had already gotten past the block of being too literal. I like the bottom two of these but the top one I had issues with and was not able to come up with anything that really inspired me. I think from looking at these though, I can very clearly see my inspiration piece. I can see the curved lines of the rock and also the visual texture of the rock. I think the bottom two models are very successful and they definitely translate into my next 3D model.

This was my first attempt at doing a hybrid drawing and I think it turned out pretty well. I would change a few things, like the molding on the floor and and around the door and I think the size of the people is a little off. Doing this project I learned a lot about using Photoshop and InDesign. I think the skills I learned I will be able to definitely apply to future projects.

These are my top three abstractions of the 2D abstract drawings that I did. I think they represent the drawings that I did but they also look completely different. I like being able to think in 3D because it allows so many different angles to be shown and allows for a lot more visual interest. I think when doing all of these models I learned to not think so simply and to not just think of what I had with my 2D drawings. It was challenging to try and come up with things that weren't so literal, but once I got past that block I was happy with my results.

These are the three abstract thumbnails that I selected that I think are the best representation of my rock. I think that they represent three different aspects of it and do so in a very abstract way.

For this project I created a pattern using images from the Victorian era. The images I used were the images I used on my elements and principles posters. For this pattern I started off by picking a color scheme which is Triadic. Then, I started to transform the images using Photoshop and changed them so that matched they fit within my color scheme and also were completely unrecognizable. Then, I chose a pattern that I wanted to put them in and placed them in the pattern using Photoshop in a way that I thought was visually pleasing. Overall, I am very happy with the way that it turned out.

For this poster I researched the designer Clodagh. I found Clodagh to be very interesting and I actually really enjoy her style of design. She uses a lot of clean, contemporary lines with a neutral color palette but also throws in splashes of color. I loved that she believes that every space should be multifunctional and that all of her spaces are liveable and also very beautiful to look at. She tries to make her designs appeal to the sixth sense so that when you enter the room you become relaxed and want to stay and enjoy it and then when you leave, you still feel a sense of calm. Clodagh is very influenced by her life experiences as a child and also from her travels. She has been all over the country and as a child she moved around a lot so she learned to live with minimal belongings, which is definitely an evident theme in her designs. Clodagh has designed for spas, hotels, residential homes and also commercial buildings, and even though these are all very different spaces, her style is still clearly evident and the client's style is also expressed.
As far as the design of my poster I tried to keep the colors neutral and added small splashes of color so that I could best represent Clodagh's style. I am very happy with how the poster turned out, but I think if I could change one thing I would change the background colors and make them slightly more muted. I thought I liked the way they looked, but then when I printed the poster I thought they were just a little too bold. But, overall, I like the design of my poster and I think it's a very good representation of Clodagh's design.
